Jaylen Wright is a different type of player from Wright, but the North Carolina prospect has the most potential in Josh Heupel’s system as an all-purpose back. In fact, he’s probably the one guy who could be used in a ton of different ways immediately, regardless of whether or not he picks up the system right away.
Standing somewhere between 5’11” and 6’0″ and weighing somewhere between 185 and 205 pounds, Wright is another player who makes this list for one reason: Speed. He posted a video to his Twitter account last June of him running a 4.28 handtime 40-yard dash.
No, you didn’t miss read that. His 40-time was an insane 4.28 seconds. That’s approaching Chris Johnson level for a running back, and this guy hadn’t even reached his senior year in high school yet. In a spread offense that often utilizes misdirection and horizontal plays, Wright is perfectly positioned to become a star. Heupel can run that.
As a result, Wright is the most underrated Tennessee football signee for 2021. He is well-positioned to immediately become an all-purpose back of some sort, and if that speed holds, you can bet the coaches will use him in a lot of ways early on.
