2. Kevin Coleman

WR; St. Louis, Mo.

Okay, so wide receiver, as we mentioned earlier, may not be the biggest position of need for Tennessee football. They should make every exception in the world for Kevin Coleman, though, and there are a few reasons for that.

More from Vols Football

Standing at 5’11” and weighing between 170 and 175 pounds, Coleman is one of those guys who could bring the horizontal aspect to Josh Heupel’s spread. He is the only player on this list with a five-star rating, bringing one in on Rivals and on the 247Sports Composite. Right now, he’s still a four-star on ESPN and 247Sports, but that could upgrade as well.

Quality alone puts him high on this list. Then there is the Josh Heupel connection to his state. Coleman comes out of Saint Mary’s High School in Missouri. He has to be familiar with what Heupel did as offensive coordinator of the Mizzou Tigers back in 2016 and 2017. With no favorites to land him yet, that could give the Vols a huge advantage.

Simply put, quality and connections outweigh the need of the position. You can always add more receivers, and this is a rare opportunity for Heupel to use his Missouri connections to land an elite prospect. He should do everything possible to get him to Knoxville.
