Recruiting for 2022 continues for Tennessee football under new head coach Josh Heupel with no commitments but a focus on lots of in-state talent. Now, the Vols have made the cut for a crucial prospect from the Nashville area.

Myles Pollard, a defensive back who comes out of Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn., has UT in his top six schools. Standing somewhere between 6’1″ and 6’2″ and weighing 180 to 185 pounds, Pollard is listed as a four-star on Rivals and a three-star on 247Sports and 247Sports Composite.

Joining Tennessee football on Pollard’s list are the Kentucky Wildcats, Virginia Tech Hokies, Oklahoma Sooners, Washington Huskies and Michigan Wolverines. He announced the schools in a graphic on Twitter Thursday evening.

Across all major recruiting services, Pollard is listed specifically as a cornerback. That’s clearly a position of need on Rocky Top going forward, as Bryce Thompson just left for the NFL, Shawn Shamburger and Kenneth George Jr. will be gone after 2021 and Alontae Taylor could potentially be gone after that year.

That only leaves Warren Burrell as a guy with any experience past that year who has any experience playing cornerback at UT. Tyus Fields and Kenney Solomon can both also play the position as well, and incoming signee Christian Charles can play it too. However, Solomon switched to wide receiver for a bit last year, and Charles is listed as an athlete.

Simply put, Pollard would be a valuable get for Josh Heupel, Tim Banks and Willie Martinez in 2022. The Vols are just too thin at the position right now, and given how much they struggled in the secondary last year anyway, they are desperate for help there.

Currently, there are no favorites to land Pollard on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. However, Tennessee football is a favorite by a plurality on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. Given the other schools they are competing with, the Vols either have a major prestige or a major location advantage. As a result, they need to land this guy.
