2. Tevin Carter

Hometown: Memphis, Tenn. (PURE Youth Athletics)

We’ve mentioned a couple of prospects that could be on the upswing in terms of garnering greater interest from top programs. Here’s a player that fits that bill from the southwestern corner of the Tri-Star state.

With 23 offers (eight SEC), it feels odd to consider Tevin Carter an undervalued prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle. However, listed as a three-star and the No. 488 player overall, Carter is in many ways just scratching the surface of how great he may become.

Part of Carter being an underrated prospect has to do with the unique situation he found himself in this spring. Because the season he originally planned to play with Kirby High School was canceled, Carter helped form a makeshift high school squad with other homeschooled students.

With Pure Youth, Carter was able to suit up in pads and take the field for four games in 2020. It didn’t provide him with the flashy stats that many of the other quarterbacks on this list have, but the 6’4″ 210-pound signal-caller was able to create a masterful junior year highlight film. Carter has expressed interest in visiting with UT, and Heupel and Halzle should be picking up on that.

Coaches and fans talk a lot about locking down the state and keeping homegrown talent in orange and white. But there’s something to be said about hard-working kids that want to be a part of Tennessee football’s tradition. Carter gives off the feeling that he really wants to be in Knoxville.
