If you want a manual on how to accidentally embarrassing yourself, Tennessee football may have one. This is the program that used a trash can as a prop to celebrate turnovers in Butch Jones’ final year back in 2017.

Now, as Josh Heupel takes over, it appears they’re trying something new. Of course, spring practice hasn’t begun yet, but workouts can occur, and players can do things on their own. They seem to be taking things to a new level.

On Wednesday, the Tennessee football program’s official Twitter account released a series of pictures involving players doing different drills with blindfolds on. They had bandanas wrapped around their eyes and sometimes their face.

Okay, so maybe this is not a bad idea if you’re trying to teach repetition and muscle memory. However, fans would believe that everything about this program has been operated with blinders on over the past decade-plus. Doing this only adds to that troll job.

This just seems like one of those things that you shouldn’t tweet out if you know what has been happening on Rocky Top for a long time. We’re talking about a program that has made every mistake in the book from administrators to coaches to players.

Last year, it seemed like the entire passing game involved blinders. The coaching staff’s reaction to all of the interceptions also made it seem like they were wearing blinders. Then there were the issues in the secondary. They gave up so many easy passes over the middle that it seemed like they were wearing blinders as well.

Wherever you looked, Tennessee football as a program was wearing blinders. This picture on Twitter only played into that even more. Also, if practice isn’t going on yet, what do the blindfolds even do? Plenty of workouts don’t require vision. Simply put, the tweet is a little confusing, and everybody paying attention to it needs more context.
