Thanks to a huge upset Thursday by Ole Miss against the No. 6 seed Arkansas Razorbacks, the No. 3 seed Tennessee Lady Vols will take on the No. 11 seed Rebels Friday in their first SEC Tournament game. The two will face off in the quarterfinals of the Greenville, S.C. event at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

UT comes into this game ranked No. 14 in the AP Poll and No. 16 in the Coaches Poll after winning their final two regular season matchups. In the one regular season matchup with Ole Miss, UT had to come back from 13 down in the first half to hold on for a 68-67 win at home.

The Rebels come into this game on a two-game winning streak after beating two top 25 teams. Arkansas is ranked No. 13 in both polls. Before that, they beat the Kentucky Wildcats, ranked No. 17 in the AP Poll and No. 19 in the Coaches Poll, on the road to close out the regular season last Sunday. Here is all the information you need for the Lady Vols’ SEC Tournament opener.

Obviously, Ole Miss should not seem like a scary opponent. However, the two wins over ranked teams and the scare they gave UT in the regular season are all concerning for Rocky Top. Kellie Harper’s team can’t overlook this team. The Rebels were the only lower seed to win a game in the tournament on Tuesday or Wednesday.

In her third year as head coach, Yolett McPhee-McCuin has helped the Rebels take a major step forward after it went 9-22 and 7-23 her first two years. The additions of Maryland Terrapins transfer Shakira Austin, Georgia Bulldogs transfer Donetta Johnson and five-star freshman Madison Scott have been extremely helpful. All three are averaging double figures.

Given the fact that all five starters, including those three players, and all but one of the 10 rotational players for the team in general will be back next year, the future is incredibly bright. They are coming together at the right time, and Rocky Top has to be prepared.

Before these two face off, the No. 2 seed South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the No. 7 seed Alabama Crimson Tide. As a result, South Carolina will take on the winner between the Lady Vols and Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament semifinals Saturday at approximately 6:30 p.m. ET.
