It’s almost impossible to predict how this game will shake out. Rocky Top lost 75-49 to Florida on the road before winning last Sunday. However, Tre Mann, Florida’s best player, was out in the game the Vols won due to a migraine. On the other hand, Florida struggled severely to put away a bad Vandy team Thursday.
Taking all this into account, either team could win in a blowout. For Barnes and co., this will be only the second game in nearly two full weeks. Remember, they had over a week off before their win against Florida last Sunday.
This game takes place one year to the date that the college basketball season shut down due to COVID just as the Vols were set to face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the second round of last year’s conference tourney. It’s fitting that this day would be their first tournament game the next year, just as the process of returning to normal begins to ramp up.
The winner of this game will advance to the SEC Tournament Semifinals Saturday and take on the winner between top-seeded Alabama and the No. 9 Mississippi State Bulldogs, who ended the Kentucky Wildcats’ season on Thursday. Those two face off at Noon, before UT and Florida, and the semifinals game between whichever teams win those games will take place at 1 p.m. ET.
