Harrison Bailey has been a name high on Tennessee football fans’ radar since he committed to UT in November 2018. The former five-star All-American recruit won the Vols’ starting QB role at the end of his freshman season and is sure to be a hot topic for as long as he plays in Knoxville.

With the new coaching staff, though, what is there to worry about now, right? Bailey is now in good hands with Josh Heupel and Joey Halzle taking over his progression, and as we mentioned, he won the starting job last year as a first-year player. There’s a reason he was so highly touted coming out of high school.
With all the changes this offseason, a new quarterback competition will make the next chapter of Bailey’s collegiate career interesting. Incoming freshman Kaidon Salter and Virginia Tech Hokies transfer Hendon Hooker are both talented dual-threat quarterbacks who chose Rocky Top for the prospect of early playing time. Brian Maurer is still there too.
Personnel aside, it’ll also be important to monitor Bailey’s relationship with those new QB coaches as spring ball gets rolling. Keep in mind that the former Marietta Blue Devil originally committed to play for Jeremy Pruitt, something his father reiterated on Twitter before he was fired. That could play a role in his development in this new system.
It’s an exciting time for the Tennessee football program. There’s a new coaching staff in place, a fresh set of faces ready to don the orange Power T and a unique feeling in the air that only comes when football is about to be played. Get ready Vol fans. The 2021 season begins right now.
