Scouting Report. 1. 839. Pick Analysis. Senior (Transfer - VT). Greensboro, N.C.. Hendon Hooker. player

6’4″ 218 pounds

One of the last great things Jeremy Pruitt did was getting Hendon Hooker to leave the Virginia Tech Hokies and join Tennessee football as a graduate transfer. He is the perfect player to fit Josh Heupel’s system, which is why he tops the list.

More from All for Tennessee

Originally a four-star prospect in 2017 out of Dudley High School in North Carolina, Hooker has been elite at the college level and proven it already. He has completed 197 of 312 passes, a 63.1 percent completion rate, for 2,894 yards, averaging nearly nine and a half yards an attempt, along with 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

On top of that, Hooker is an elite dual-threat quarterback, as he has 247 carries for 1,033 yards and another 15 touchdowns. Simply put, Hooker can do it all, and as an experienced dual-threat who can be an elite playmaker at this level, he has everything that is needed for a quarterback to run Heupel’s up-tempo system.

The one drawback to Hooker is that he is injury prone, which comes with a dual-threat quarterback. However, assuming he is good to go, there is no bigger guarantee of success in Heupel’s first year on Rocky Top than Hooker. As a result, he’s clearly in the best position to start heading into spring practice.

We should also note that with Salter’s future in question, Heupel is looking for his first quarterback commitment in 2022. That could be his future guy, meaning Hooker would be the best guy this year no matter what for Tennessee football, particularly since he is a senior.
