With five seniors in the rotation this year, Tennessee football has a lot of work to do to restock its defensive line for the future despite a lot of young talent in the program. The Vols have also been targeting lots of prospects in Louisiana recently, so it makes sense that they would trend for a 2022 defensive lineman from that state.

UT has made the top 10 for Maxie Baudoin IV, who is listed as a three-star defensive tackle on Rivals and 247Sports. Coming out of Ascension Episcopal High School in Youngsville, La., Baudoin is in the 6’3″ to 6’5″ and 285 to 290-pound range.

Joining Tennessee football is Baudoin’s top 10 are the Texas A&M Aggies, Ole Miss Rebels, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, USC Trojans, Arizona State Sun Devils and Virginia Cavaliers. He announced the schools Monday morning with a video on Twitter.

More from Vols Football

Specifically at defensive tackle, the Vols have two seniors in Darel Middleton and Aubrey Solomon, both of whom took advantage of the NCAA extra year of eligibility COVID ruling to come back for 2021. Greg Emerson and Kurrott Garland, however, are redshirt juniors.

That means that by 2023, all four rotational defensive tackles from the past two years will be gone. Sure, there is still plenty of talent in the program, including Elijah Simmons, Omari Thomas and Dominic Bailey. Isaac Washington, assuming he gets reinstated, is an early enrollee freshman. KaTron Evans will join the program later this year.

Simply put, there are enough bodies. However, there is very little playing experience at this level among all of those guys. As a result, adding a player like Baudoin to Josh Heupel’s first full recruiting class would be a major boost.

There are currently no favorites to land Baudoin on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Tennessee football is a majority favorite on the unscientific Rivals Fan Future Cast, but FSU and Auburn are the only two receiving “warm” interest on 247Sports. As a result, the Vols have some work to do to land him, but the LSU Tigers being out of the way helps.
