2.) Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are another team that may seem like a surprise to have interest in a cornerback like Thompson. Kliff Kingsbury’s secondary was top 10 in passing yards allowed per game and accounted for eight interceptions in 2020.

But that was with their top CB Patrick Peterson, who joined the Minnesota Vikings this offseason, and current free agents that have not re-signed with the club, including Johnathon Joseph and Dre Kirkpatrick. They recently re-signed 32-year old cornerback Robert Alford, who missed the entire 2020 season due to a torn pectoral muscle that required surgery.

Sure, they went out and signed Malcolm Butler, but there is still a lack of depth and overall skill ingrained within their secondary. Representatives from the Cardinals were front and center watching Thompson go through motions at Tennessee football’s Pro Day. It’s not outlandish to believe they have interest in the former Freshman All-American given their situation.

Since 2014, the Cardinals have only used three draft picks on college cornerbacks. Thompson, if selected with one of Arizona’s six picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, would become the first Tennessee football player drafted by the club since Dan Williams was taken in the first round of 2010’s selection process.
