Draft Grade: A+

The other notable Tennessee football alum taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2017 NFL Draft? That would be CB Cameron Sutton, who over four seasons on Rocky Top registered over 100 solo tackles and 6 interceptions.

Sutton has appeared in 52 games for Pittsburgh, totaling 64 solo tackles, five forced fumbles, three interceptions and eight passes defended over four seasons. He has filled in all over Mike Tomlin’s defensive secondary and has emerged as one of the most consistent DBs the team has on its roster.

Last month, the Steeler’s prevented Sutton from becoming a free agent and signed him to a two-year deal worth $9 million total. Playing alongside fellow SEC defensive backs Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama) and Joe Haden (Florida), Sutton has done a fantastic job representing the Power T with one of the NFL’s most legendary franchises.

Sutton hasn’t just built upon the skills he showed in Knoxville, Tenn. and developed into a terrific next-level cornerback. He’s proven himself as a dark horse of the 2017 NFL Draft class, something many Vol fans may have seen coming but nobody else would have.

Selected in the third round, the other starting defensive backs in Pittsburgh: Fitzpatrick, Haden and Terrell Edmunds, were all first-round picks in their respective years. Sutton has more than lived up to the expectations coaches had for him and is deserving of his new NFL contract.
