Although it’s a mixed bag on some rankings, Trey Smith is in the best position of any Tennessee football player heading into the NFL Draft. He appears in any mock draft going three-deep and in all rankings that go 150-deep.

More from All for Tennessee

Heading into last season, Smith was a projected first rounder. That’s not the case now. He’s anywhere from a second to a fourth rounder depending on who you ask, and his rankings are all over the place as well.

In terms of mock drafts, Rob Rang of Fox Sports has him going 93rd overall to the Buffalo Bills in the third round. That wasn’t the only mock draft that had him going to Buffalo. Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News has him going there as well, but in that case it’s as a second rounder and the 61st pick overall.

Smith appeared in two mock drafts on CBS Sports’ mock draft for all 32 teams, both in the third round. Jordan Dajani had him going to the Las Vegas Raiders as their 79th pick, but he also had Smith staying in state to be the Tennessee Titans’ 100th pick.

When it comes to overall rankings, Mel Kiper of ESPN had him at No. 135 in his top 150. He also had Smith as the No. 7 ranked guard in the draft. Todd McShay of ESPN had him at No. 100 in his top 350 with a 71 overall grade. Iyer has Smith at No. 60 in his Sporting News player rankings, and Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com has him at No. 122.

Smith is behind Palmer in Kiper’s and Jeremiah’s rankings, and him as the Titans’ pick would have him going behind Palmer on CBS Sports. Overall, though, he is clearly getting the most recognition of any Tennessee football player, so he easily tops this list.
