If Tennessee football has been targeting anybody for its 2022 recruiting class outside of quarterbacks, it has been edge rushers of all kinds. That includes defensive ends, outside linebackers and anybody in between. On Friday, the Vols made the cut for another such prospect, this time from Georgia.

Joshua Josephs, a three-star across the board out of North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Ga., which is just outside of Atlanta, had the Vols in his top eight. Standing at 6’3″ and in the 205 to 210 pound range, Josephs is listed as an outside linebacker on 247Sports and a weakside defensive end on Rivals.

Joining Tennessee football on Josephs’ list of schools were the Miami Hurricanes, South Carolina Gamecocks, UCF Knights, Memphis Tigers, Kentucky Wildcats, Penn State Nittany Lions and Michigan Wolverines. He announced the schools on Twitter.

Two of the three commitments Josh Heupel has secured already for 2022 are edge rushers of some kind. Venson Sneed is listed as a strongside defensive end across the board, and Elijah Herring is listed as an outside linebacker across the board.

The Vols would really be able to build a lot of depth at the position if they added Josephs. Guys in the system are already great players to build the future around, including Tyler Baron, Roman Harrison, Morven Joseph, Byron Young and Bryson Eason.

Of course, with quarterback Tayven Jackson committed to the class and the recent transfer of Isaac Washington, the real focus of Heupel and his staff needs to be targeting defensive linemen for the future. He also needs to be going after inside linebackers. However, adding more edge rushers for Tim Banks to work with isn’t going to hurt at all.

Currently, there are no favorites to land Josephs on the 247Sports Crystal Ball or the Rivals Future Cast. However, Tennessee football is a majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, so that might count for something. UT is the closest of any school in the running, including South Carolina. As a result, keep an eye on the Vols and their chances with this guy.
