Tennessee football makes cut for 2022 in-state athlete Anthony Brown
Momentum is starting to build for Tennessee football on the recruiting trail, as they continue to add transfers for 2021 and pick up prospects for 2022. In the process, they are starting to trend for other 2022 prospects, including ones from within the state.
On Wednesday, they made a key cut for a prospect from Gibson County in the western portion of the state. Anthony Brown of Milan High School in Milan, Tenn. has the Vols in his top 12. A three-star on Rivals and 247Sports, Milan is listed as an athlete who stands at 6’2″ and weighs in the 190 to 195-pound range.
Joining Tennessee football on Brown’s list are the Memphis Tigers, Arkansas Razorbacks, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Auburn Tigers, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Indiana Hoosiers, Illinois Fighting Illini, Virginia Cavaliers, Miami Hurricanes, Wisconsin Badgers and Oregon Ducks. He announced the schools with a video on Twitter.

According to Ryan Callahan of GoVols247, Brown is being recruited primarily as a defensive back. However, based on his MaxPreps stats, he spent time at quarterback and wide receiver. He reportedly threw for 249 yards and four touchdowns, ran for 927 yards and eight touchdowns and caught 16 passes for 299 yards and five touchdowns.
Given his size, Brown could definitely play receiver at the next level, although the Vols appear to need more long-term help at defensive back, so that’s where he’d likely play. Being 6’2″ and playing defensive back is a big help as well.
One bit of good news for UT is that the Michigan State Spartans were the unanimous favorite to land Brown out of three predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but they didn’t make the list. That leaves things wide open going forward.
There are no favorites to land Brown on the Rivals Future Cast, and Rocky Top is the favorite by a plurality on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. As a result, Tennessee football has a great chance to land this guy, and his versatility would be a huge boost to Josh Heupel.
