Smith is a three-time All-SEC guard and earned All-American honors in 2020. He also played guard in a spread offense and guard and left tackle in a pro-style offense during his four years on Rocky Top. Missing the end of 2018 and the offseasons before and after 2018 due to blood clots in his lungs created medical concerns, and that’s likely what cost him.
However, Smith has been fully healthy since 2019 ever since he worked out a medical plan to play. He’s never really been hurt on the field, and now, he is going to the best franchise possible to allow him to succeed. Kansas City is loaded on offense and needs immediate help on the offensive line. Smith can provide that.
Now that he is with a franchise, his success will come down to his merits. That he can showcase them with an elite supporting cast in a place like Kansas City will likely allow him to emerge into an elite blocker up front. Smith could be the key player that fixes the issues KC had in the Super Bowl after all the pressure that Patrick Mahomes was under.
