On the same day Tennessee football added an offensive lineman to its 2022 recruiting class, Josh Heupel had the Vols trending for another one as well. This time, he’s trying to pluck one out of Pennsylvania rather than Florida.

Rocky Top made the top five for Ryan Brubaker, listed as an offensive tackle across the board. Coming out of Cocalico High School in Denver, Pa., Brubaker is listed as a four-star on Rivals and 247Sports Composite and a three-star on 247Sports and ESPN.

Brubaker currently stands at 6’6″ 280 pounds. Joining Tennessee football on his list are the Penn State Nittany Lions, South Carolina Gamecocks, Stanford Cardinal and Vanderbilt Commodores. He announced the schools Monday evening on Twitter.

Obviously, Brubaker’s got the height to immediately step up at offensive tackle in the SEC. However, similar to Brian Grant, the Vols’ commitment on Monday, he’s got to get bigger to be able to handle defensive linemen at that level.

Given the fact that K’Rojhn Calbert, Jerome Carvin, Riley Locklear and Cade Mays are all key rotational guys on the line this year and are all seniors, this is clearly another position where Heupel needs to build up his depth. Wanya Morris transferring this past offseason made things even more difficult for UT.

Currently, only one player out of Pennsylvania is on the Vols’ roster. Defensive back Romello Edwards of Philadelphia, is entering his redshirt junior season. Brubaker, out of Lancaster County, Pa., is just over an hour west of Philly.

Despite this news, Tennessee football has an uphill climb to land Brubaker. Although there are no predictions on the Rivals Future Cast, Penn State is the unanimous favorite on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, and South Carolina is the plurality favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast.

Not only is Penn State a heavy favorite, but Brubaker is also the son of former Penn State offensive lineman Jeff Brubaker. That combined with being from Pennsylvania will make things difficult for Heupel to land him, but he should do everything he can to do so.
