Tennessee football: Five questions for 2021 SEC Media Days
1. When will the NCAA investigation conclude?
Honestly, it’s surprising this hasn’t ended yet. This was the whole reason Tennessee football fired Jeremy Pruitt and brought in Josh Heupel in the first place back in January, as there were credible allegations that Pruitt and his staff were giving players impermissible benefits.

Those allegations have triggered an investigation from the NCAA and the university’s own compliance department, but the investigation hasn’t ended. This is a dark cloud hanging over Heupel’s head, as he doesn’t know if the Vols will even be able to play for a bowl game yet, and neither does the rest of the team.
Heck, Heupel and co. have no idea if the Vols will be able to play for a bowl game over the next two years, so this is hampering recruiting as much as anything. At this point, fans just want the investigation to come to an end, regardless of what the findings are.
Maybe the public could at least receive an update from Heupel at SEC Media Days about how the investigation is coming along and if he knows anything about what the Vols are looking at. Velus Jones Jr. and Alontae Taylor can’t focus on that as much, but they would probably like to know what’s in store for their senior years as well.
Simply put, nothing surrounding Tennessee football takes precedence over the investigation, and that will be the top story on Rocky Top until it’s addressed. That doesn’t change for SEC Media Days, so Heupel needs to address it.
