1. KaTron Evans

Defensive lineman; Baltimore, Md.

Once again, Tennessee football is in decent shape at defensive tackle this year. However, the Vols could be moving back to a 4-3 and will certainly be more multiple under Tim Banks. That leaves a greater need for defensive tackles when it comes to the future.

KaTron Evans was supposed to provide that. Coming out of St. Frances Academy in Maryland, Evans has some connections to linebacker Aaron Willis. However, he was released from his letter of intent back in the spring, a devastating blow to Josh Heupel’s first team on Rocky Top. This leaves defensive tackle very thin for the future with so many seniors this year.

That blow was more devastating given the entries of Isaac Washington and Greg Emerson into the transfer portal. Darel Middleton also entered the portal, but since this is his last year, his departure didn’t make this devastating for the Vols.

Standing between 6’4″ and 6’5″ while weighing between 295 and 320 pounds, Evans is a four-star across the board and already in perfect physical position to play up on the defensive line. He made a splash move after leaving UT and decided to commit to the Jackson State Tigers under new head coach Deion Sanders. That was a huge steal for Sanders.

Evans and Dylan Brooks could have together been the future of an elite pass rush for Tennessee football. Without them, the Vols have a lot of holes to fill. However, Josh Heupel hasn’t made any excuses so far. This sport is about the next man up, and that’s how UT needs to approach it.
