Put the ball in his hands and magic is going to happen. That's how countless Tennessee fans are feeling these days when it comes to standout running back DeSean Bishop. After his heroics against Alabama, Bishop won over even more people who have been following his Vols career closely. However, might even more incredible memories be on the way in 2027, too?
With Bishop being a 2023 signee, the door is open for him to say goodbye to Knoxville after this season to get himself ready for the 2027 NFL Draft. Since he's looking like an SEC Player of the Year candidate, he has surely raised his draft stock immensely.
For most people, that'd be enough to take off. Bishop isn't a normal player, though, and his love for the orange knows no limits. That's why plenty of people are talking after Bishop appeared to strongly hint that he could be ready to suit up for UT and Josh Heupel once again next campaign. Oh?

DeSean Bishop potentially returning in 2027 would be incredible for David Gabriel Georges
Fresh off his 159-yard performance against Alabama, Bishop now has 2,368 rushing yards to his name. As some of you are well aware of, Vol For Life Travis Henry is No. 1 on the all-time rushing yards list with 3,078. The leaves Bishop 710 yards away. With five games left this campaign, Bishop would have to average 142 yards per game the rest of the way to break it - he's currently averaging a little under 120 per contest.
There's also the postseason to think about. So, yes, in theory he could break the record this year and be done with it, but the thought of him returning next campaign as well if he doesn't pull it off is also fully on the table. This would be huge for Heupel, but it would also benefit someone who isn't even on campus yet: five-star commit David Gabriel Georges.
The elite running back, ranked No. 2 in the country at his position for the '27 class, would benefit greatly from having someone of Bishop's experience to help take him under his wing. Also, is there anyone better to show Gabriel Georges what being a Vol is all about than Bishop?
The latter made the move to Knoxville as a preferred walk-on, busted his hump to impress the coaches, eventually was put on scholarship, and now he has the opportunity to make Tennessee history either this year or next. Bishop's work ethic is spectacular, which would definitely rub off on Gabriel Georges.
The impact Bishop continues to make on and off the field has been incredible, with him being such a big part of the community. One day, he's going to make his way to the NFL, and countless Vols fans are going to be cheering their heads off for him on Sundays instead of Saturdays. No rush there, DeSean.
If he decides to delay that move to the pros for 2028 instead of 2027, it would be nothing short of incredible. Thanks to his latest comment on social media, it seems like there's a good chance of that happening.
