How on earth was Joey Aguilar going to follow up his first game with Tennessee football? He was downright brilliant in Week 1, but on Saturday, he took the field at Neyland Stadium for his debut in front of the hometown crowd.
For the first time ever, Aguilar was ready to put together a strong performance in front of the Tennessee faithful on home soil. He did that and more, as the Vols took down East Tennessee State in convincing fashion - yup, the final score was 72-17.
Tennessee fans will love watching Joey Aguilar do his 1st Vol Walk and embrace family
Aguilar was given the second half off, as the Vols were up 48-7 at the time. Right after the final whistle, Aguilar was interviewed on ESPN and you could tell he was overcome with emotion due to all of the support he received this week and for the game. Aguilar had a special message for the fanbase too that's sure to make countless people smile:
"You know I just want to give all glory to God for putting me in this position," Aguilar said. "I'm super grateful and first time playing in Neyland, I was able to get my family out here and it's a blessing. I'm just super excited. Good game, good win. A lot of stuff to clean up, but really exciting."
Joey Aguilar put on a show for Tennessee football fans in the Week 2 win
It's impossible to not have some love for this young man. Aguilar has been so much fun to watch two weeks into the season and the fact that he's so humble makes everything a million times better. In the win over East Tennessee State, he tossed for 288 yards and two touchdowns.
There were more than 100,000 people packed inside of Neyland too, which made things extra special for him. Oh, and we can't forget about two supporters in particular who stole the show in the stands. That'd of course be Aguilar's mom and grandma.
Both were spotted having the time of their lives at their first Tennessee game, with Aguilar's mom crying tears of joy seeing her son run out onto the field, while his grandma let the tears fly after his unreal TD toss to Mike Matthews. Look at how much that moment meant to her:

That's so wholesome. The entire Aguilar family has a lot to be happy about, as the Vols are now 2-0 on the season and next up is an unreal showdown in Week 3 against the Georgia Bulldogs. Aguilar will have everyone hoping he can power the Vols to an upset win. People doubting him will end up regretting it.
