Tennessee fans have been waiting for the first big commit of the 2027 class and Kesean Bowman delivered. Bowman, a top-100 national prospect, was a must-get target for Josh Heupel and staff in their quest to land a top class this cycle.

Bowman chose the Volunteers over Oregon and Vanderbilt and there was a much deeper group of teams that tried to get on in this recruitment, like Miami, USC and Ohio State. However, as the days went on it seemed more like a battle between the Vols and the Ducks. Bowman was originally committed to the Ducks in July but backed off that pledge by the start of the 2025 season.

4-star WR Kesean Bowman commits to Tennessee

Once Bowman backed away from his commitment to Oregon, it was clear that Tennessee was going to do whatever it took to get the elite pass catcher from Brentwood, Tennessee in the class. Bowman told Tom Loy of 247Sports that Heupel and wide receivers coach Kelsey Pope were in constant communication with him. Tthat work made all the difference when he decided to pull the trigger on a commitment during his weekend visit to campus.

"I feel like the whole staff played a big role in my decision, but I would say that Coach Pope and Coach Heupel played the biggest role," Bowman said. "Those two were the ones who stayed consistent with me throughout my entire recruiting process and continued to make me a priority."

Bowman sounds like a recruit that's ready to shut things down and focus on getting ready for his senior season. That would be ideal for Heupel as having a top in-state player in the fold should help with recruiting other top players over the rest of the spring and summer. It wouldn't be realistic to expect other schools to back off of their recruitment for Bowman, but that's another worry for another day.
