One of the more underrated draft prospects from the Tennessee Vols football team was edge rusher Joshua Josephs. He had a solid 2025 season in Knoxville, but ended up going in the fifth round to the Washington Commanders. Part of that comes down to him not having the prototypical size for a three-down edge in the NFL.
Las Vegas Raiders fans and social media fuels early buzz around Jermod McCoy
However, he might be on a very good track, as Logan Paulson is onto something. Logan Paulsen, a former NFL player and Washington Commanders analyst, had an interesting comparison for former Vol edge rusher Joshua Josephs. He compared Josephs to Andrew Van Ginkel, noting that their measurables and draft positions are nearly identical. That’s extremely high praise, considering Van Ginkel has developed into a standout pass rusher in the NFL.
Very interesting comp from @LoganPaulsenNFL between Andrew Van Ginkle & Commanders 5th rd pick Joshua Josephs. The measurables are there, JJ has longer arms, draft position almost identical. AVG has killed Washington over the years. Something to file away pic.twitter.com/n1mAHw8I14

Joshua Josephs draws praise with his NFL comparison
I really like Joshua Josephs, especially with his size and length. His long arms and explosiveness should translate well to the NFL. I was a little surprised he fell to the fifth round, but I get it, he’s still developing, especially against the run. Still, the upside is there, and this was a great pick by the Washington Commanders.
As of right now, Josephs will primarily be a pass-rush specialist at the next level. Last season for Tennessee, he posted 32 total pressures, four sacks, and a 21.3% pass rushing win percentage. He has all the tools, and with the Commanders just signing edge's Odafe Oweh, K'Lavon Chaisson, and Charles Omenihu this offseason, Joseph's has a chance to develop and play in passing situations where he should shine.
It might take some time for Josephs to really break out, but he has the potential to completely outplay his draft position in the fifth round.
