Recruiting insider hints bad news is coming for Tennessee with a 4-star commit

This would be a bit of a blow for Josh Heupel.

With the Early Signing Period coming next month, the Tennessee football team is hoping to put the finishing touches on what should be a Top 10 class. However, it's also flip season and the Ohio State Buckeyes are working to pull a fast one on the Vols.

Nation's No. 1 player gives fantastic Tennessee update after his recent visit

Last weekend for the Penn State showdown, Ryan Day and Co. brought in 4-star Tennessee wide receiver commit Legend Bey for an official visit. Post visit, Bey made it clear the Big Ten side is going to be a contender for him moving forward. However, if you ask On3's Steve Wiltfong, he thinks some disappointing news could be on the way for Heupel:

Tennessee commit Legend Bey is on flip watch with Ohio State pushing hard

Yup, that's not what anyone in Knoxville wants to see. Wiltfong brought up offensive lineman Kevin Brown, cornerback Jay Timmons and Bey. On Thursday, Timmons, a Florida State legacy, officially flipped from the Noles to Ohio State.

That was the first domino to fall. Plenty of signs are pointing to Brown backing off his Penn State pledge soon, as the Nittany Lions are holding on with all they've got right now after James Franklin was fired. What might Bey end up doing?

He originally committed to Tennessee and Heupel in late June. Throughout his recruitment, the Texas product has picked up 36 offers. According to the 247Sports composite, he's ranked four stars and the No. 24 athlete in the country - Bey is also the No. 47 prospect out of Texas for the 2026 class.

The Vols and Heupel are still hoping to sign him in December and get him on campus in '26, but it's now feeling like a 50-50 shot that ends up happening. The reigning national champs clearly turned his head during his visit in Columbus. Will that be enough to get him to change his mind in the near future, or will Tennessee hang on here? Again, it feels like this one could go either way.
