Can someone explain how this is even possible? On Tuesday, the SEC released its First-Team list for the 2024 campaign and while three Tennessee football players were featured, there was one omission that has fans furious. We're certainly talking about stud cornerback Jermod McCoy, one of the best in the business.
McCoy was nothing short of sensational this season for Tennessee. His acrobatic interception against Vanderbilt is still being talked about, while his 54-yard interception return against Alabama is still being celebrated too.
Despite having an unreal campaign, it evidently wasn't enough for him to be named an All-SEC First-Team selection. With the greatest of respect for Ole Miss' Trey Amos, he has no business being ahead of McCoy here. This is just senseless:
Tennessee CB Jermod McCoy was fully robbed of First-Team All-SEC honors
This season, McCoy led the Tennessee secondary with his 39 total tackles and four interceptions. He went from being a wideout to an elite cornerback in no time. He was a stud on defense for head man Josh Heupel and defensive coordinator Tim Banks.
A quick look on social media shows that Tennessee fans are livid with McCoy being snubbed and we don't blame them. The good news for UT is that Dylan Sampson, Cooper Mays and James Pearce Jr. all were named to the First-Team, but come on, McCoy had to be included too.
McCoy can go ahead and use this as some extra motivation to put on a show in the College Football Playoff against Ohio State. With the rest of the country watching on Dec. 21, it will be a great opportunity for McCoy to prove he's one of the best DBs in the country and not just in the SEC.
He likely won't call out the SEC for this snub job, but we'll go ahead and do it for him. It's a total joke that McCoy is on the Second-Team and not with Mays, Sampson and Pearce where he belongs. Give us a break here.
