Another new commitment for the Tennessee football team and Josh Heupel? That's exactly what we have for you. Moments ago, Heupel and his coaching staff got even more incredible news, this time from defensive lineman JJ Finch.
Ohio State pulls off a shocker by flipping 4-star Ohio State commit
Finch had been committed to Kalen DeBoer and Alabama since June 22, but Tennessee kept going after him hard and UT wasn't ready to take no for an answer. This one went all the way to the first day of the Early Signing Period, but Finch indeed just gave Tennessee the news it was hoping for.
He becomes the third flip of the day, joining defensive lineman Carter Gooden (UCLA) and receiver Legend Bey (Ohio State) - it's important to note that 4-star EDGE Jordan Carter also picked the Vols on Wednesday.
Touted DL JJ Finch has flipped from Alabama to Tennessee football
This has been an incredibly busy day for Heupel, but things just got made even better. It's always special when Heupel can pull off a flip like this, but you already know that things are made even sweeter when a bit of a jab is landed on a rival like Alabama.
Finch picked up nearly 30 offers this cycle, with plenty of teams working late to try to get him to flip. He took official visits to Alabama, Tennessee, Miami, Purdue and Michigan. He took a June OV to Knoxville and that experience on campus left an impression on him. It wasn't easy, but Heupel pulled off this big-time recruiting win. It's one he must be over the moon about. As for Alabama? DeBoer and Co. probably had a feeling this was coming.
Will 4-star ATH Salesi Moa sign with Tennessee or Utah?
UPDATE: Moa has since changed his mind and committed to Utah. He'll be signing with the Utes and not the Vols.
While the Finch news is exciting for Tennessee, Vols supporters are still waiting to see what will happen with four-star receiver Salesi Moa. Moa took an official visit to Michigan for the Ohio State game, but reports are indicating that he's now considering staying home to play for Utah.
Moa's dad played for Utah as well and the Utes are being aggressive in their efforts to pull a flip of their own. As of this writing, Moa is yet to make things official with either team, but he has until Friday to make his final decision. Will the Vols hang on, or will he play for the in-state Utes? We'll find out soon enough.
