The recruiting efforts for Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols football team haven't quite gone according to plan thus far this winter. While the team has brought in standout guard Wendell Moe Jr. and wideout Amari Jefferson, Heupel has swung and missed on some of his other prime targets.
However, he's not ready to go down without a fight when it comes to cornerback Kyndrich Breedlove. Earlier this week, the Purdue transfer announced his commitment to Arizona State. However, nothing is ever official until he signs. According to Rivals' Woody Wommack, the veteran defensive back will be taking an official visit to meet with the Vols. Is a potential flip on the way for Tennessee?
Purdue CB transfer Kyndrich Breedlove will visit Tennessee this week
This sure is interesting. Indeed, Breedlove announced his commitment to Arizona State on Monday. Now, less than 48 hours later, news of him taking a trip to meet with Heupel and his staff has arrived. Tennessee is in need of added help at CB, especially with Boo Carter expected to play on both sides of the ball.
Note: It has also been reported on Wednesday that Jermod McCoy suffered a torn ACL during an offseason workout. It now makes even more sense that Heupel is looking to get this done.
A 6-0, 175-pounder, Breedlove started his career back in 2021 with Ole Miss. He made plays for two seasons with the Rebels before transferring to Colorado in 2023 - he ended up spending one season with Deion Sanders over in Boulder.
Then last offseason, Breedlove decided to transfer again, this time signing with Purdue. In 2024, he posted 28 total tackles and three interceptions in 12 games with the Boilermakers. Breedlove is now looking to join his fourth program.
For now, he'll be Tempe-bound to play for the Sun Devils, but it sure is head-turning that Heupel was able to convince him to give the Vols one last look before he makes things official. The fact that Breedlove is taking this visit shows he has high interest in returning to the SEC. A positive visit for him could turn things in Tennessee's favor. Stay tuned.
