Just when it looked like Rick Barnes might be cooling off on the recruiting trail, he picked things right back up again. Tennessee has gone a few days without a commitment, which did feel very rare lately, but now the Vols are back at it, and this could be their biggest get yet.
Tennessee facing major frontcourt questions with key visit on the horizon
Tennessee has picked up a commitment from 6-foot-3 former VCU guard Terrence Hill Jr. The former Ram averaged 15.0 points, 2.7 rebounds. and 2.8 assists on an effiicent46.6% from ther field. Hill also shoots 37% from deep, adding another good shooter to the roster along with Dai Dai Ames, and sharpshooter Tyler Lundblade. He will make his way to Knoxville with two more seaosn of eligibility left.

Terrence Hill Jr. could be Tennessee basketball's biggest addition yet
Looking at the bigger picture, this is Tennessee’s best addition so far from a ratings standpoint. Hill is ranked the No. 18 player in the transfer portal by 247Sports, while On3 has him at No. 34, making him a bona fide impact player. During March Madness, Hill scored 34 points in an overtime win over North Carolina and added 17 points against Illinois in the Round of 32, proving he can perform at a high level against elite competition.
Furthermore, the one downside with Hill and the Vols is that he isn’t an elite defender. He can hold his own offensively, but defense has never been his strongest area, and that’s okay. If he can knock down shots, score from deep, and take care of the basketball with solid facilitation like he’s shown, Tennessee can afford to take a slight step back defensively.
All in all, this roster is shaping up to be one of Rick Barnes' best teams. The Vols have three true bucket-getters: Jalen Haralson, Ames, and now Hill. All of them do it in different ways, too. Plus, the Vosl added Lundblade, the nation's best shooter. I really like the way the roster is coming along, and if Nate Ament comes back, the Vols have a legit chance to open as the national championship favorite in Detroit next year.
