Is this going to potentially open the door for the Tennessee football team to keep Boo Carter and have him play some wide receiver in 2025? Who knows if that may be the case or not, but plenty of people are a bit surprised with the latest news that just arrived out of Knoxville.

That news is that veteran wideout Squirrel White, who had spent the past three seasons with the Vols and head coach Josh Heupel, won't be back in 2025. On Friday, the speedster announced that he's entering the transfer portal. If you're taken aback a bit by this news, you're not alone. Reporter Pete Nakos was the first one to drop the update:

Tennessee WR Squirrel White will be entering the transfer portal

In 2023, White had a breakout year for UT and Heupel, posting 67 receptions for 803 yards and two touchdowns. The season before in 2022, his first with Tennessee, the speedster posted 30 catches for 481 yards and two more scores.

Fans were hoping that he'd be able to post a strong year in 2024, but that didn't quite happen, with White recording 34 receptions for 381 yards and two touchdowns. Per Nakos, White is looking to play a little closer to home with his next stop.

White is an Alabama product, so if he indeed is looking to play closer to home, maybe he's hoping either Auburn or the Crimson Tide will come calling. Regardless, this feels like a bit of a hit for the offense and Nico Iamaleava in 2025.

As we mentioned above, will this impact things for Carter? Per multiple reports, the stud defensive back is also considering entering the portal, as he wants to play on both sides of the ball moving forward. Carter is meeting with Heupel and others before making a final call. With that said, with White on his way out, it could open the door for Carter to step in at WR, but things are a bit unknown there.
