UAB player apologizes for 'inexcusable' stomp on Tennessee kicker Max Gilbert

As you might have been able to guess, the Tennessee football team didn't have any issues on Saturday in taking down UAB. The Vols cruised to a 56-24 win, but there was one unfortunate incident in the middle of the action that people were not happy about.

In case you missed it, following a PAT and Tennessee score, the TV cameras caught UAB safety Sirad Bryant stomp on Gilbert's foot, causing him to keel over. It was the textbook definition of a dirty play and it's something that should never happen. Not long after the final whistle, Bryant took to social media to apologize to Gilbert for what he had done.

As you can see above, Bryant called what he did inexcusable and he also went on to apologize to his teammates, coaches and more. Bryant clearly realized that what he did was wrong and that it's something he can't do again.

As for the rest of the action on the field, things were quite smooth on offense for the Vols, while defensively there were some tough moments - giving up 24 points to UAB is surely not what defensive coordinator Tim Banks wanted to see.

Despite that, Tennessee is 3-1 on the season and non-conference play is now a thing of the past. Gilbert was 7-7 on the day with his PAT tries too, which was needed for him. The last time the Vols were on the field, Gilbert missed his game-winning FG attempt vs. Georgia.

That miss stung quite a bit for him, but Tennessee as a whole has put that game in the rearview mirror. This weekend, the Vols will take on Mississippi State on the road and they're favored by double digits. Another convincing win should be on the way for Josh Heupel and his players and Gilbert will be ready to step in whenever his number is called.
