Vols 2014 Stat Projections: Derrell Scott

facebooktwitterreddit

Fans of the Tennessee Volunteers are already quite excited at the thought of senior Marlin Lane and true freshman Jalen Hurd carrying the ball out of the backfield this upcoming season.

Those two running backs will provide the Vols with a versatile one-two punch that should greatly improve Tennessee’s rushing attack.

But those aren’t the only two running backs that should have Vol fans itching for the season to start.

True freshman Derrell Scott, a four-star running back from Havelock, NC, should not be overlooked this season.

Scott, who reportedly runs the 40 in 4.55 seconds, was offered scholarships by Clemson, Florida, Florida State and Notre Dame, among several others.

The North Carolina native, along with Maryland transfer Justus Pickett, will provide the Vols with an embarrassment of riches at running back.

I wouldn’t expect to see Scott get a ton of carries as a true freshman, but he will spell the starters and get some time in games where the outcome has already been decided.

To have a player like Derrell Scott as your third or fourth running back tells you exactly how successful Butch Jones has been at recruiting so far.

The Vols now have some great depth at running back and it’s only going to get better over the next couple of years.
