Manning hosted a golf fundraiser Monday morning to benefit the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and his PeyBack Foundation, according to WBIR-TV in Knoxville. Here is a quote from Manning in the story.
"“East Tennessee is special to me. Our foundation, the PeyBack Foundation, has supported East Tennessee throughout its entirety. This event has raised additional funds for the foundation to be distributed back to Tennessee. The foundation gave $1 million dollars in grants this year, about $200,000 to the East Tennessee area.”"
Manning also awarded out scholarships to four incoming University of Tennessee students as part of the Manning scholarship, which was started in 1998, according to a report on The Tennessean.
The dedication of Gate 16 at Neyland Stadium to Gus Manning, who was hired as Robert Neyland’s assistant in 1951 and has served the university for 64 years, also featured the All-American Quarterback from 1997 in attendance. Manning was on hand to see another Manning have his name etched into Tennessee history, and the gift was made by the star quarterback himself along with his wife Ashley back in April, according to UTSports.
"“We’re excited to bring this to fruition,” Peyton Manning said. “Gus Manning defines what being a Tennessee Volunteer is all about. His spirit of volunteerism, flexibility to fulfill many jobs, he has done jobs that it takes 50 people to complete now. He defines what service to the university is, so Ashley and I wanted to honor him in a way that is deserving.”"
And, of course, Peyton Manning would not visit Knoxville without visiting with the football team. Manning worked out with the team Monday, and players and coaches posted pictures with him. Here are a few.
Always great to have the former Vol back in Knoxville.
