Former Tennessee Vol Peyton Manning Wins Record-Setting ESPY Award

Peyton Manning took home the ESPY award for the best record-setting performance with his career touchdown pass record. It’s the second straight year he took home an ESPY.

It was a big day for the Peyton Manning-Demaryius Thomas duo. Just a few hours after Thomas secured a five year, $70 million contract to stay with the Denver Broncos, Manning won an ESPY for the best record-setting performance for the second straight year.

That record was the 509th touchdown pass that allowed Manning to pass Brett Favre for the most career touchdowns. The pass was caught by none other than Thomas himself.

Here is the play, which was against the San Francisco 49ers.

Last year Manning took home the ESPY Award for best NFL player. He has been racking up ESPY’s since his college days, and he should have won the best comeback player award in 2013.

You also could make a case that he should have won the ESPY Award for best record-setting performance last year when in 2013 he threw 55 touchdown passes.

But either way, congratulations once again to one of the greatest former Tennessee Volunteers ever to put on the uniform in any sport.

Perhaps the new deal for Thomas and the award for Manning on the same day is an omen that this is their Super Bowl season. Thomas is definitely the best receiver that Manning has ever had, and now that his contract is secure, he might be even more willing to risk his body to make the necessary plays.

And as long as Manning takes care of his body and does not get hurt again, everything should be fine.

On Wednesday, he at least got to add another ESPY Trophy to his collection of individual awards, which never seem to stop stacking up.
