Tennessee Vols Bringing Checker Neyland Stadium Back for Home Opener vs. Oklahoma Sooners

The Tennessee Vols will Checker Neyland Stadium in their home opener against the Oklahoma Sooners the way they did last year vs. the Florida Gators.

Let’s give it another shot.

After the incredibly disappointing loss to the Florida Gators last year, fans of the Tennessee Volunteers are going to attempt to bring back the Checker Neyland Stadium movement in their home opener against the Oklahoma Sooners Sept. 12, according to checkerneyland.com.

With this setup, the stands are supposed to look like an orange and white checkerboard, as in one section fans where all orange and in another section they where all white.

Fans can find out what they need to wear in their section by going to the website.

It is obviously a cool move, but do we really want to do it after last year? That loss to Florida was not just disappointing. It was devastating.

It’s hard to know if the checkerboard stadium is good luck or not. On one hand, last year was the closest the Vols came to beating Florida since the streak began in 2005. On the other hand, it was also the game they should have won above all others given the state of both football programs.

Perhaps one reason this one will be different, though, is that it will be a night game on National Television. The Florida game was a noon game on the SEC Network, a complete downgrade from the hype of what the game historically was.

This game against Oklahoma is on ESPN in a Primetime slot so the entire world can see the checkerboard.

So we say give it another shot. Who knows? This time it could work in the favor of the Vols.

But if they lose again, then you have to get rid of it altogether. It’s clearly bad luck.
