Week Four AP and Coaches Top 25 Polls: Tennessee Vols Further from Rankings

The Tennessee Volunteers football team is further from the Top 25 rankings in Week Four despite a 55-10 win over the Western Carolina Catamounts.

That strength of schedule can kill you.

And despite looking good in a solid win, the Tennessee Vols are no closer to the Top 25 than they were last week in either poll, even if their vote totals increased.

In fact, the Vols fell one spot further from the Top 25 rankings in the Amway Coaches Poll this week. But that poll was also crazy enough to keep the Auburn Tigers in the Top 25 despite getting blown out by the LSU Tigers.

And both polls thought it a good idea to keep the USC Trojans ahead of the Stanford Cardinal despite what happened Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Ole Miss Rebels moved into the Top Five of both polls.

And they also received first-place votes, as did the LSU Tigers in the AP Poll.

So the rankings to a degree are starting to take shape, but there is a heck of a lot of football left to be played.

Here are the two polls for Week Four.

There is still no love for the Vols upcoming opponent, the Florida Gators, which everybody in Vol Nation will agree is their biggest game of the year.

And ad the same time, the Missouri Tigers are still, somehow, hanging onto a Top 25 spot in both polls, which is remarkable.

Meanwhile, the Oklahoma Sooners moved up in both polls, making Tennessee look a little bit better, and the Georgia Bulldogs are looking like a tougher team on the Vols’ slate every week.

Meanwhile, the Arkansas Razorbacks and South Carolina Gamecocks are looking like more sure wins on their slate every week.

With a win this weekend, the Vols have a chance to get back into the Top 25. But that should not matter at this point. Just focus on winning the game.
