First-year coach Jeremy Pruitt has been in the middle of a lot of chatter about the lack of success on the recruiting trail. Now, he has the Vols rolling.

Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee football are making a huge splash in the state of Georgia on the recruiting trail. Fans should be even more impressive since last year was the worst season in Tennessee football history. Oh, and Jeremy Pruitt has never coached a game as a head coach before.

If you’re reading this post, you already know about the catastrophe disaster the coaching search was. In fact, it probably goes down in history as the worst ran coaching search of all time.

The Vols were really going to hire Greg Schiano and to be frank; there was no way he was going to be better than Butch Jones. Don’t forget, Jones did lead Tennessee to two nine-win seasons in a row despite the injuries.

Yes, there was a collapse against South Carolina and Vanderbilt, but still two nine-win seasons. There is absolutely no chance Schiano could have led the Vols to a nine-win season.

Pruitt didn’t have much time once he got to campus last season, yet still managed to get a top 20 recruiting class according to 247sports.com. Sometimes, especially in the SEC Conference, a top 20 class can be deceiving. Example last year, Tennessee was 20th in the nation but 8th in the SEC and 3rd in the SEC East.

The 2019 recruiting class got off to somewhat of a slow start for Jeremy Pruitt. However, it is recruiting, and anything can change in a matter of minutes. We’ve seen it a lot where a guy is committed to a certain team for a long time and then changes his mind at the last possible second.

Nonetheless, the 2019 class is still in the early stages, but it is starting to shape up to what Pruitt and coaches are capable of. Pruitt and company have been able to go into the state of Georgia and make noise.

About two weeks ago, the Vols received a commitment from five-star offensive tackle, Wanya Morris from Loganville, GA. And, earlier this week, Tennessee picked up a commitment from four-star wide receiver, Ramel Keyton from Marietta, GA. Also in the 2019 class thus far is four-star tight end, Jackson Lowe from Cartersville, GA.

In order for Tennessee to get back to the glory days, they are going to have to be relevant in the state of Georiga. I know it is early, but four of the seven commitments in the 2019 class are from Georiga.

This all comes at a time where Kirby Smart and Georgia had the first ranked recruiting class in 2018 and top ten so far for 2019. If Pruitt can keep doing what he is doing, the Vols might be back to the glory days before too long.
