Grant Williams stat line: 37 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks

There are historic performances based on the magnitude of the win and then elite stat lines that make a player’s list of memorable games. In this one, it’s the elite stat line, but it was still against an SEC opponent.

More from Vols Basketball

Tennessee basketball had a rough start to the SEC season, losing its first two conference games. But then they beat the Kentucky Wildcats before going on the road to play the Vanderbilt Commodores. Memorial was always a tough place to play, and this was no different.

Vanderbilt built a 10-point halftime lead over the Vols. Still, Grant Williams had done his part. He had 17 points and was the only player carrying UT at that point. Then the second half came, and while the rest of the team upped its game, Williams surprisingly did individually as well.

Williams dropped 20 points in the second half. The best part about it for him was it was consistent. He didn’t just go on some red-hot run. Instead, he managed to have the offense go through him the entire game.

As a result, he was able to finish with those 37 points, which was a career high at the time. Adding in seven rebounds, two assists and three blocks only made his impact even greater. But the efficiency was the real story.

For the game, Williams shot 60 percent from the field, hitting 12-of-20 shots. But then he added 13 free throws on 15 attempts, which was a highly efficient outing at the line. Combine his efficiency with his willingness to take over, and there’s no doubt that this was an amazing performance.
