Yes, two players earned recognition in Tennessee basketball’s win over the Alabama Crimson Tide, and John Fulkerson was not one of them despite the fact that he led everybody in scoring in this game. That’s because defense was the story.

Jordan Bowden was struggling severely from the three-point line around this time, and he went into this game trying to break that slump. He failed, going 0-for-six from the three-point line. However, playing smart, unselfish and hard still made him the biggest impact player in this game.
Despite an off-night, Bowden managed 20 points in Tuscaloosa because he was aggressive. He got to the free throw line 11 times and hit 10 of them. As the primary scoring guard, he did everything he could to overcome his slump on that side of the ball.
Then came the plays without the ball. Bowden had seven rebounds, even two offensive rebounds in the game, and he had an incredible six steals. As a result, he managed to be all over the court, which is why Rick Barnes had him playing 39 minutes in this one.
Unlike Yves Pons, Bowden had a few mistakes down the stretch of this game, including a turnover and a missed layup in the final minute. However, he had done so much before the final minute that he still belonged on this list. It was one of the most complete performances by any guard all season for Rocky Top.
