Tennessee football at LSU: Last-minute predictions
This Saturday, Tennessee football may have been the hardest game for us to predict this week. The LSU Tigers are on a four-game winning streak and should be undefeated. They are playing in Death Valley. UT has its top receiver, Cedric Tillman, banged up, and Warren Burrell, its top cornerback, is now out for the season.
On the other hand, LSU just barely beat a bad Auburn Tigers team, they are playing under a first-year head coach in Brian Kelly, Rocky Top is coming off a bye week, and the Tigers are also banged up. Jayden Daniels hurt his knee last week at quarterback, and they are missing cornerback Sevyn Banks and offensive lineman Will Campbell.
We’ve already given our best prop bets and our prediction for the game. You can find more information on LSU from our conversation with Gabe Henderson of Death Valley Voice. These are our five last-minute predictions for Tennessee football’s visit to the LSU Tigers.
Here are our final projections for Josh Heupel and the Tennessee football Volunteers’ trip to Baton Rouge, La., to take on Brian Kelly and Louisiana State.
5. Tennessee football will score the first two touchdowns.
LSU has struggled in the first half all year. More importantly than that, though, the Vols dominate the first half, the second quarter in particular. However, historically, they have had fast starts under Josh Heupel, and they did have one of those to open the season against the Ball State Cardinals before becoming a second-quarter team.
Well, in this game, they’ll be a first-quarter team. In addition to LSU’s issues in the first half, the Vols are coming off a bye. They are well-rested. Heupel is usually pretty good at drawing up early plays to catch the other team off-guard, particularly on offense.
As a result, Tennessee football will take an early lead. This doesn’t mean they’ll win, but it does mean they’ll take control. Also, given what they do in the second quarter, scoring the first two touchdowns means they could build a huge lead heading into halftime. That will be necessary because of our next point.
