Tennessee is going all out on the recruiting trail ahead of June's official visits. Josh Heupel already has seven commits locked in, and with visitors coming to campus soon, that number should keep growing. The Vols have a ton of targets, but these are the three guys Heupel absolutely has to land in the 2027 class.
Ranking the 3 biggest needs Josh Heupel must address in the 2027 recruiting class
1. David Gabriel Georges, RB
Tennessee has been after David Gabriel-Georges for what feels like forever, and for good reason. The in-state running back is one of the top players in the country, and right now the Vols are battling Ohio State hard for his commitment. The five-star running back would be a big miss for the Vols as they have made him their No. 1 target in the 2027 class. Tennessee needs running backs, and Gabreil Georges would be a day-one contributor, taking over for DeSean Bishop next fall.
2. Miles Brown, CB
The Vols only have four cornerbacks visiting this summer, and Browen is not only the highest-ranked, but one that the Vols have been after for a while as well. The Martin, TN product has already been to Knoxville a few times and feels like a perfect fit for what Josh Heupel and Jim Knowles want defensively. Tennessee is battling Ole Miss, Louisville, and Kentucky for his commitment. Brown is a really athletic three-sport player with great size for a corner, and his movement skills really stand out on tape. Losing out here would be a significant gut punch.
3. Marvin Nguetsop, DL
Who doesn't want a 6-foot-8, 270-pound defensive lineman in the middle of the defense? Nguetsop is from Germany and is new to football, but flashes all the potential in the world. He already is a Navy All-American and has a very strong offer list. Tennessee is battling some serious competition here. The Vols have to beat out Michigan State, Michigan, Ole Miss, and Kentucky for his commitment, and most of those programs are led by really strong defensive coaches. Having an elite defensive lineman is high, and getting the chance to recruit a player with upside like this makes him a player that Heuepls needs to add in the class.
