If you follow Tennessee football recruiting, you know that no recruitment has been as important as David Gabriel Georges for Josh Heupel and Tennessee. The five-star running back from The Baylor School in Chattanooga has been Tennessee’s top target regardless of position, and his decision is coming down to Tennessee and Ohio State. As of right now, he is set to announce on July 22, and both programs are making their final push to land him.
That said, Ohio State may have just made a statement move, and Tennessee will have to counter.
Tennessee is already making a big impression on one of the best in-state 2028 recruits
Jordan Darren Djila Tchuisseu, a Baylor School athlete, is roommates with Gabriel Georges and grew up with him in Canada. He was just offered by Ohio State, and it could flip things back into their favor. On Instagram, Georges posted: “Neighbours to roommate to teammate???! LETS GOO!!!! MY DAY 1!!” He was clearly fired up about the Ohio State offer.

Tennessee must counter this move
Well, if you’re Josh Heupel, you have to make a counter and offer Tchuisseu. If the difference between landing and not landing one of the best high school running backs in recent years comes down to his friend not being on the team, you have to get it done, no questions asked. In the NIL era and with extra scholarships, it wouldn’t be a noticeable risk. Plus, Tchuisseu has good tools, including a 6-foot-6 wingspan and strong track speed, making him an intriguing prospect to develop on defense.
Putting Gabriel Georges’ recruitment aside, a player with that kind of build is worth an offer and evaluation. But at the same time, if Tennessee just offers him without real intent, it won’t work. They have to make him feel like a priority, and that likely means upping the NIL offer on Tchuisseu. If nothing else, an offer at least shows that Tennesse will do whatever it takes to land his best friend, Gabriel Georges.
Right now, Tchuisseu isn’t ranked by any recruiting service, but that could change with his name now being out there. A lot of his other offers are from smaller Group of Five schools and FCS programs, so he is a legitimate Division I prospect, but maybe not yet an elite-caliber recruit. Either way, he’s worth taking a chance on.
Heupel needs to get this done for the sanity of the fanbase, because losing Gabriel Georges would be a major gut punch. Plus, who knows, maybe it will work out with Tchuisseu.
