No.5 – Vols will win a Regular-Season Championship or SEC Tournament Championship

Last season Vol fans were a couple of plays away from the best of both worlds. Tennessee already had a share of the SEC Regular-Season Championship with Auburn with they took on the Kentucky Wildcats for the third time in the SEC Tournament Championship Game.

The Vols got off to a slow start in the game -maybe the slowest start of the season- down 27-12 with eight minutes to go before the halftime. The 15-point deficit was ultimately what held Tennessee back from winning their first SEC Tournament since the 1979 season.

Let’s not act like winning an SEC Championship is going to be easy. The SEC is becoming a threat as the best conference in college basketball. Of course, the ACC is good and always will be but last season the SEC was in the argument.

Of course, there is always Kentucky who is ranked second in the preseason AP Poll. Bruce Pearl has the Auburn Tigers ranked 11th, Mississippi State comes in at 18th and LSU is the final SEC ranked at 23.

Florida, Alabama, and Missouri are other teams receiving votes. The SEC is on pace to get 6-8 teams in the NCAA Tournament, so winning the regular season or the Tournament would be quite an accomplishment.
