Tennessee Lady Vols exhibition preview vs. Carson-Newman: Live stream, time, TV
Fans get a first look at the Tennessee Lady Vols under Kellie Harper in an exhibition against the Eagles. Here is our women’s basketball Volunteers preview.
A preview to a new era will be on display Tuesday night. The Tennessee Lady Vols, with three starters and four of their top six rotational players gone while under the leadership of new head coach Kellie Harper, will take the court in an exhibition tipoff against the Carson-Newman Eagles.
Harper will lead her players onto the court on the heels of a season in which they went 19-13, finished 7-9 in the SEC, were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. It also comes after the tough decision to fire Holly Warlick, the program’s first All-American, longtime assistant for all of eight Pat Summitt’s national championships, and seven-year head coach.

As a result of that firing, the Tennessee Lady Vols enter this season with only their third head coach in school history. They also have four new recruits, headlined by five-star guard Jordan Horston, a junior-college transfer in Jaiden McCoy, and the return to health of Washington State graduate transfer forward Lou Brown, a sixth-year senior who missed all of last year due to injury.
So despite all the concerns and questions, there is a lot of excitement for this team, which is ranked No. 25 in the espnW preseason poll. Here is all the information you need to know for this evening’s matchup.

Despite this game being an exhibition, Carson-Newman will actually be a decent test for the Tennessee Lady Vols. They return three starters under head coach Mike Mincey, who is entering his ninth season, and are coming off their second straight appearance in the Division II NCAA Tournament and their third straight 20-win season.

This team could be dangerous, especially against a program in such transition. Remember, UT lost Evina Westbrook, who left for the UCONN Huskies after leading the team in scoring and assists, Meme Jackson, the school’s only three-point specialist, and Cheridene Green, their starting center. Mimi Collins’s transfer to the Maryland Terrapins also hurt, as she was a rising star.
However, Horston does lead a recruiting class that is ranked No. 9 in the nation. Rennia Davis, the co-leading scorer, is also back and ready to shine. And Zaay Green and Kasiyahna Kushkituah are loaded with potential and ready to take the next step. Also, this is the tallest team in Lady Vol history with two 6’5″ freshmen and Kushkituah at 6’4″.
Simply put, there’s a lot to watch for in this exhibition matchup. What it means for the Tennessee Lady Vols remains to be seen, but it will be a fun ride early on. It’s a decent first look at what Harper will bring to the table.
