As Holly Warlick enters her fourth season as head coach, the Tennessee Lady Vols are ranked No. 4 in the Women’s Basketball Preseason USA Today Coaches poll.

The Women’s Basketball NCAA Coaches Poll is out.

And unfortunately, Tennessee’s arch-nemesis, the UConn Huskies, are ranked No. 1 in the preseason Top 25, with Geno Auriemma’s team expected to repeat again.

See the full poll here.

The Lady Vols came in at No. 4, coming off of a 30-6 season and an Elite Eight appearance.

With nine players returning, expectations are high once again for this basketball program, but it is in the midst of a serious drought, having not made a Final Four since 2008.

That’s not acceptable in Knoxville. At least they are in the preseason Top Four this year, though, after finishing last year ranked No. 6.

Behind the Huskies, the South Carolina Gamecocks came in at No. 2 in the rankings, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish came in at No. 3.

With two teams in the Top Five and five teams in the Top 25, including the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Texas A&M Aggies, and Kentucky Wildcats, the SEC was well-represented in the rankings.

The ACC also had five teams.

The Big Ten, meanwhile, had four teams, the Pac-12 had three teams, and the Big 12 had three teams.

The AAC had two teams with the Huskies and the South Florida Bulls.

DePaul of the Big East, George Washington of the Atlantic 10, and Princeton of the Ivy League were also in the Top 25.

Given the number of teams and where they all stood, it is safe to say that the SEC was best-represented. Let’s hope the Lady Vols at least meet expectations this year.
